A Summer of Generosity
This Sunday we begin the Summer of Generosity
appeal.
Through your continued gracious support, we are
able cover our budgeted needs here in Yucaipa.
The question is now what Lord?
God told Abraham he would be blessed to be a blessing to others. In our text for June 14, Jesus
sends out the disciples, telling them to travel light and gives them power to “proclaim the
Good News…heal the sick, raise the dead” (Matthew 10: 7-8).
In the same way, we are called to travel light with a compassionate heart. Your church council
has decided that a way to do that is to bless our Synod, CCLM now the Wellness Center of San
Bernardino and Ombeni’s childhood church in Choma, Tanzania.
First the Pacifica Synod. Bishop Nagler will be here on Sunday the 7th to honor our graduates,
bless our CCLM quilts and the prayer cloths we are sending to our sister church In Choma,
Tanzania.
We will start the Summer of Generosity with him and the Pacifica Synod. Last year we gave
$7,400 to support their work in our area and around the world. We start this year with an
offering of $7,500 and may add more during the year.
Next the San Bernardino Wellness Center. Last year, Erwin Buschauer left a bequest to Faith
of $15,000. We want to use $5,000 and through my link to Thrivent double-double match it so
it becomes $15,000 for CCLM while leaving $10,000 for a special project here at Faith.
Those of you who knew Erwin understand the heart he had for that ministry to the unhoused,
those who were addicted to drugs or sick without care. He was heeding the call of Jesus echo
through the centuries to “Healing the sick, raising those dying”. He played a major part in
resurrecting Central City Mission allowing it to become the San Bernardino Wellness Center.
Claire Sekafetz will be with us on June 21 to update us on the great work they continue to do
there.
If you would like to take this opportunity to double match a gift to the Wellness Center this
would be great time. Your gift will be double matched – $100 becomes $300. Just indicate for
the Wellness Center on your check or envelope.
Lastly, the church in Choma, Tanzania pictured in this
message. Last year Ombeni, my sister and I went to
Tanzania to celebrate the retirement of his sister-in-law
Pastor Sarah Mkanza. We had a wonderful time with
the vibrant Lutheran Churches there. We hoped to
bring Pastor Sarah to the US for a visit. She has never
been. Now however, a visa requires a $10,000 deposit
for each person coming from there to the US. So that
will wait. Going from here to there does not have that requirement. Ombeni will be returning there this August.
Last year, we brought monetary gifts with us for Sarah and for the church in Choma, which
were much appreciated. In Choma, parishioners dance in the aisles as they bring up their
offerings to the basket you see below. They shouted for joy at our $500 gift.
We would like to bless that growing
congregation with another monetary gift.
The pastor has been there for years and is
doing excellent work, and the church is
overflowing, even with multiple services,
when that happens people must listen
from outside. We would like to pay for a
railing to the balcony area pictured here.
They have a stairway to the balcony area
but as you see, no railing. For
approximately $6,000 they would
complete this as part of their ongoing
building project.
Our church council decided to match gifts for this effort so your $100 would become $200.
Just make your check out to Faith and indicate on your envelope or check that this will be for
Choma. They will be dancing in the aisles and in the balcony.
All of this is possible because your generosity has blessed Faith. Blessed we become a blessing
to others.

Thank you Lord for blessing our ministry here at Faith. Thank you for our graduating seniors.
Bless their life journey. We also ask that you bless our summer of generosity. Faithful to your
mission, may we all discover the deep joy of sharing Good News.

Pastor Bunge will be out of the office next week. No message next week, he and Connie are
helping their daughter’s family to pack up their current home as they will be moving to a new
home, closer to work.
PANTRY – Next pantry June 13 and 27. We could use bags (paper or plastic) for distributing
food. Thanks for the response thus far.
QUILTING – The quilts for our graduating seniors have been completed along with 8 quilts for
Lutheran World Relief and 9 for our San Bernardino Wellness Center. Thanks to Holly for fabric
donation from Family Assistance. Over 250 prayer quilts were made and blessed on Feb 15;
they are in the Narthex for you to distribute.

Thanks to all who continue to give shoes for Soles 4 Souls. We had an anonymous
donation of new shoes this week. The box was full and so was taken for its good
use but filling up again. THANKS. The box is in the Narthex. Thanks to David Strack
for coordinating. Thanks to Holly from Family Assistance Center in Yucaipa for making donations as
well.
PRAISE
• Bob Jensen got a good report from his biopsy, non-cancerous. Fantastic!!
• Even as we pray for Scott Hembre who lost a mother and brother this year, we thank him
for bringing his brother’s new and used shoes.
• Tom Ziech’s hip surgery is finally scheduled for June 12.
• Bonnie Strack was with us again on Sunday and is experiencing gradual improvement.
Continue to pray for her full recovery and for her son Brendan Simms, suffering years from
strokes.
• Pat Teeters was with us and continues to regain strength.
• Thanks to Pastor Tim and son Peter for helping me hang the larger TV in the back of the
church.
PLEASE PRAY FOR
• Kyle Hadley has been experiencing mobility issues.
• Diane Watson has a torn ACL. Her doctor does not recommend surgery. The resulting
limitations to her mobility have resulted in her not being able to attend services.
• Please send prayers for Maria Baker’s mom Debbie Belmudez as she is being treated for
heart failure, currently hospitalized. They are removing fluid but still need to remove more.
• Craig Baker has requested that we pray for the family of Kyle Busch, the Nascar driver
whose life was taken very young.
• Pat Motschall would like us to pray for newborn second cousin, Conner.
• Members of St. Alban’s have asked us to pray for Father David Caffey.
• Heather Lewis’s mother Rosalind Lara’s recovery has faltered, and she was readmitted to
the hospital.
• Barbara Kuerzinger’s son, Ian, whose colon cancer was discovered early is working through
radiation and chemotherapy. He is on medical leave.
• Lauren Shaffer’s surgery has not happened yet. Her bone biopsy indicated cancer.
• Bonnie Hallberg’s clot in her hip was determined to be stable so they can move forward
with her shoulder surgery.
• Nelson Hall continues to have health concerns. They are checking on his heart function
with a new monitor. He was looking well.
• Kim Guevara appreciates your prayers for Stephanie the daughter of her friend and
granddaughter, Kayla.
• Continued prayers for Jacque Kottmeier; she was able to visit her daughter but is no longer
able to drive. Bless you Elaine Risso for reaching out to her.
OUTREACH
PRAYER BLANKETS/SHAWLS – to blanket and surround people in love, comfort and
prayers were blessed on Sunday, March 22.
These are being delivered to those who have encountered limited mobility or
received a challenging diagnosis.

Thanks to Steve & Sharon Cady for helping with an Action Team to purchase
some with bible verses on them.

They each have a label from Faith indicating that they are surrounded by this prayer
community.

for helping to make them. New ones have been added.
HANDMADE CARDS – We still mail about 37 BIRTHDAY CARDS AND ANNIVERSARY
CARDS AND CARDS TO THOSE ON THE PRAYER LIST monthly. And we will provide
CARDS IN THE NARTHEX for members to mail. There are Monthly Seasonal cards and
generic Thinking of You & Get-Well cards.
Watercolor class will be on the 2nd Sunday of June (postponing a week because of Graduation
Celebrations.)

PRAYER/FRIENDSHIP ROCKS –
Karen, Sharon C., Carol Hamre & Connie B., continue to paint prayer/friendship rocks for you
to keep, give to someone, surprise someone, or put them in your garden, etc.
Rocks are available in the Narthex, Chapel and Fireside Room for members, friends and
the AA, NA, Al-anon, pantry etc. groups.
DRIVE BY PRAYER – Paula and Nancy have begun this ministry. They will coincide with the
Pantry dates. You are invited to join them.
