Reminiscing in Hope
This Sunday you are invited to light a candle for people you remember with
fondness. This year we remember members and relatives of members who
have passed away since last All Saints Day: Pat Kilday-Hallberg, Erwin
Buschauer, Bud Watson, Yvette Mureaux, Cynthia Eason, Dorthy Hamre, Jean
Fenton (aunt of Ann Shea).
I have been remembering the Saints of Trinity in Hemet, lately. The
congregation recently finished selling their property to Living Streams Church.
Trinity’s last service in that building was on Sunday, October 26.
Trinity has a long history. Members who would later form Trinity as a church in
1914, were ministered to by clergy coming out by train from LA to Hemet back in 1904. Most members now will be joining Spirit of Joy Lutheran which is also
in Hemet, led by a former intern at Trinity, Pastor Brian Foxworth. So, there will be continuity, but also an ending.
Trinity has been kind enough to offer Faith robes, music, an advent wreath, even ashes for Ash Wednesday. They hand over the keys on October 31.
In 2004, we celebrated the 90th Anniversary of the church by creating tiles for the front of the sanctuary with the names of people we wanted to honor. As I
read the names this week each name brought memories. Some people are still living but others like my mother, Myrene, are now part of the Saints in
Heaven.
I am not sure what the new congregation will do with those tiles, leave them, cover them over?

The same year we put up those tiles, Connie and I celebrated the graduation of Eric and Brie with their Master’s Degrees on a cruise ship in the
Mediterranean. One of the stops was Istanbul and Hagia Sophia. The cathedral was built in 537 AD and was the largest interior space at the time.
The Eastern Roman Empire had wonderful mosaics decorating the interior. After the fall of Constantinople in 1453, the building became a mosque, and
the mosaics were plastered over. Images are not allowed in a mosque. When we visited, the church was a museum (1935 – 2020). The mosaics were
being restored. We had tea with a man who was working on their restoration. In 2020, the building was redesignated as a mosque. The restoration has
stopped. I am not sure what will become of the mosaics. Turns out the entire mosaic of universe is in constant motion. Life has its
seasons. We are not in control. Our options are to become bitter, shrug our shoulders, allow indifference to poison our hearts. OR as members of Trinity
wrote on Facebook appreciate the past and carry the Light forward: My kids grew up in this church. It was a huge part of our lives. Sad to say
goodbye to such a legacy. At least the church will live on as a religious facility. Another wrote: The end of a beautiful era. Forever grateful to Trinity for being
so formational in my faith journey. I hope the space is a blessing to the new church.
Another wrote: Time rolls on; but the spirit of love, joy and faith of Trinity will live on through all of us.
In Luke, Jesus says that wealth, laughter and full plates have their day. The transitory nature of life is also true of our sorrows. All matters in our lives can
be blessed if we pray, love, and give. The reading ends with the golden rule: “Do to others as you would have them do to you.” (Luke 6:31)
PRAYER:
Lord thank you for blessing our lives with wealth, laughter, and fullness and even in times of poverty, hunger and weeping you bring your kingdom near.
May we bless those around us treating them as you treat us.
Grace & Peace,
Pastor John

November 2
All Saints you can light a candle for those you hold in your heart that are now a part of the Saints of Heaven.
Also remember to turn back you clocks.
November 9
Veterans Day. We want to honor our veterans I have photos of Michael Shea, Dona Whitt, Steve Cady and Joe Koenig for our PowerPoint. Any more?
AGAIN, THANK YOU to all who donated items and assisted with the RUMMAGE SALE. I wrote last week that nearly $1,700 was raised to benefit
the Pantry. As a reminder, the PANTRY is open 2nd & 4th Saturdays; from 8 to 10:00. We have 25 turkeys for Thanksgiving distribution from the Morongo
tribe. If you can donate one that helps as well. Starting now and ongoing to Thanksgiving, we are asking donations from the church family for the other
parts of a Thanksgiving meal, as well, such as cranberries, turkey dressing, gravy, canned vegetables, canned yams and any other miscellaneous items.
QUILTING – Was not that wonderful for have 26 of the quilts from our quilting group on display! 16 were boxed for Lutheran World Relief, which distributes
them around the world. 10 were given to our San Bernardino Wellness Center.
Pastor Bunge will be in the office on Monday morning and afternoon and all of Tuesday afternoon next week.
WATERCOLOR PAINTING CLASS by our OWN MASTER WATERCOLORIST,

Connie know. No class fee, materials provided if you do not have own. For taking the class, we ask you to please donate to the Camp fund for youth.
MOVING FORWARD WITH YOUR SUPPORT
We will be updating our sign out front and lighting it. Let us know what you think of the solar lighting at night. Walker Signs is assisting with the
sign out front. (He had a child in our preschool). Michael Gross is working on the sound system for upstairs.
We also will be adding a stove to the Fireside Room for convenience of refreshments, meals, and our preschool. Thanks to Kyle Hadley and Lou
Hitter for helping with the installation of the oven. Together with Tim Drum and Dana Hadley we are blessed with people
caring for our property.

• Eloise came through her surgeries and chemo for the melanoma discovered around her eye. All appears well but they will do further

• Bob Jensen also developed a kidney stone and infection. He had a positive experience at the new Urgent Care by the new Stater Brothers off Cherry
